Home Insulation

Thermal Insulation is one of the most important components to any home but can be overlooked as it isn't front of mind and out of sight. We tend to upsize our heating/cooling systems to compensate which drives our bills higher, leaving us wondering what are we missing. The Answer is often invisible in the ceiling space above our heads or if you have an older home, under the floor is often cooler driving cold air up through the floorboards below our feet. Other air flow problems may include outside air coming from under doorways and around window frames, sometimes internal doors when one room is colder/hotter than the other.

Steps to combat this problem:

  1. The Most Cost-effective method would be to use door seals around windows and doors
  2. Install Insulation in the ceiling space to prevent loss of heat through the ceiling, this will also keep hot temperatures out during the summer for longer.
  3. Replace single insulated glass with double glazing to prevent heat loss through the largest windows in your home
  4. Insulate under the floor to prevent cold air draughts through your home

Things to watch out for: 1. Never block building vents on the outside or inside of your home within the walls as they prevent mold and mildew buildup within your home. 2. Have an electrician look at your wiring before insulation is installed and rectify anything that needs upgrading for the future installation. This will prevent your electrical wiring from overheating and causing any house fires.
