I have created this list so you can understand what to look for when purchasing your battery. , .
First of all you need a battery that has been tested in the existing market for atleast 5 years minimum.
Does't have a sole distributor, simply put if there is only one company you can get a product from; distribution level not retail. This often means when the distributor goes broke, you no longer have app access as it is their software, you cannot get replacement parts without going back to the international manufacturer. This is usually unknown because the battery is simply a rebadged battery of unkown origin.
Has local knowledge to fix the battery for when the installation company closes shop or declares bankruptcy, which is commonplace for installation companies for solar and batteries. It doesn't matter what you paid for your installation; when you have to pay another company to fix it.
The battery technology isn't at the end of its life cycle. An example of this is low voltage batteries of today are at the end of their life cycle and won't be supported going forward, therefore no parts for replacement or repair inside the next 2 years, essentially a dead brick, when something goes wrong within 5 years.
Select a battery with low complexity. This is obvious if you buy a complex architecture, there are only a select few installers that can make repairs or do something as simple as troubleshooting when something goes wrong.
Side note, as of December 2027 all batteries will need recertification in Australia. Essentially all batteries on the market today will need to be re-confirmed to pass the new standard, most companies won't pay good money to do this for the existing battery technology but rather support the newer technology. Simply meaning, all batteries sold today, might not be on the market after 2027 for expansion, therefore my suggestion would be to maximise your installation battery size as you can only claim the goverment incentive (STC) once per property.
