How to avoid Safety Switch Failure
All safety switches are electromechanical devices that require action to maintain the whole interconnected system. When a safety switch is dormant for a long period of time and in an outdoor switchboard the elements such as moisture and dust can work away at the mechanism to gum it up.
So what can happen?
If this important mechanism fails it can prove devastating for you as a person, safety switches doesn't stop wiring issues like Circuit Breakers do but rather are only installed to prevent electricity using your body as a pathway home, preventing an electric shock. If this fails to operate you may feel a shock or worse.
Actions to prevention
Simply go into your switchboard every 6 months or sooner as required by the manufacturer and hit the button with a 'T' Marked on it, this will cause the lever to operate (usually down) and turn the circuit off, if this doesn't happen call you electrician or us in Victoria for immediate replacement of the device, your life is in your hands.
